“Du studierst Physik – als Frau?!” – Coaching für Frauen in der Physik September 2023
Nach mehreren Durchgängen, die sehr gut ankamen, wird am 6.&7. September 2023 das Coaching für Frauen in der Physik wieder stattfinden und ihr könnt euch ab jetzt dafür anmelden!
Eine professionelle Coachin wird dort mit den Teilnehmerinnen beispielsweise professionelle Kommunikation, selbstbewusstes Auftreten und den Umgang mit Hierarchien trainieren. Ein paar genauere Inhalte findet ihr auch auf der (Achtung, ansonsten veralteten!) Website https://fs-physik.uni-koeln.de/coaching-fuer-physikerinnen/ In erster Linie richtet es sich an Studentinnen der Physik und ist besonders gut für höhere Bachelorsemester, im Master oder früh in der Promotion (Ausnahmen sind aber auch möglich). Es wird auf Deutsch durchgeführt und ist für Euch gratis. Wichtig wäre, dass ihr wirklich die ganzen 2 Tage ganztägig teilnehmen könnt, da die Einheiten aufeinander aufbauen.
Wer Lust hat kann sich gerne unter mmelame2@uni-koeln.de verbindlich anmelden. Wenn ihr teilnehmen möchtet, aber an dem Termin nicht könnt (oder bis dahin alle Plätze schon vergeben sind), schreibt auch das gerne, dann bekommt ihr Bescheid wenn es nochmal wiederholt werden kann. Wenn ihr Fragen oder Unsicherheiten habt, auch gerne einfach melden.

Ulrich Schwarz from Heidelberg University will give a lecture on the topic of „Physics of viruses“. He will talk about how physical laws can help to better understand the different stages of the life cycle of viruses and how they set the limits of virus structures, replication and spread.

Currently, there is a big hype around quantum computing, but the state of development is still so immature that many things are not yet tangible. It is not clear when practical applications may arise but there is obviously the potential that quantum computing has huge impacts e.g. on the privacy of everyone’s communication by breaking currently used encryption mechanisms.
Therefore, we want to learn from social and environmental implications of earlier technological developments and formulate key questions that should be addressed when performing active research in potentially pervasive fields. …

Studium am Limit Treffen / Studium am Limit (studying at the limit) meetings
| Wenn ihr anstatt bei euch, das Problem eher in den Rahmenbedingen des Studiums sieht und lieber versuchen wollt eine Strukturelle Veränderung zu bewirken, finden regelmäßig Treffen des Bündnis Studium am Limit statt, die sich genau das vorgenommen haben und zu dessen Treffen alle herzlich eingeladen sind. Das Bündnis hatte auch die Vollversammlung organisiert. | A group of students, including numerous student political parties, formed a coalition with the aim of fighting for structural change in the conditions of students and also organised a meeting intended for all students (you might have received the invitation mail). The coalition meets regularly and everyone who is in interested in helping is welcome to come. |
Studiengang Computational Sciences
Seit letztem Jahr bietet die Uni einen neuen Masterstudiengang an, in dem man moderne Computer-gestützte Forschungsmethoden lernt. Hierbei gibt es auch die Physikalischen Schwerpunkte: Computational Astro- and Space Physics und Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics.
