1) Organisation der Lehre
2) Lonely, you are so lonely?
3) Studienfinanzierung

Hallo zusammen,

2) Lonely, you are so lonely?

1) Organization of education
2) Lonely, you are so lonely?
3) Study financing

Hello, everyone,

we can probably skip the pre-talk about the current situation, you know what’s going on and how crazy it is. But now we still want to get back to you with some hints which hopefully will not only help you to understand the situation regarding this semester, but also to overcome the crisis quickly together:

1) Organization of education (or a teaser of digitalization)

A lot has happened in the last few weeks to ensure that the teaching can start online on 20.4. An overview of the regulations can be found here:

What’s important here:

  • For the time being there will be no examinations; however, there are exceptions for oral examinations and hardship cases. All other courses (including our tutorials) will take place.
  • Lab courses will not take place for the time being, but you should still register in the lab courses database – if you want to join the lab courses if they should start lateron during this semester. Since very recently it is possible to do some experiments online. Nevertheless we strongly recommend to focus on lectures and seminars in this semester if it’s possible for you. Information on labcourses for master students.
  •
  • Register as soon as possible via KLIPS for the courses, so that the lecturers can reach you (and check your smail account regularly; that means much: more often than once per week!!)
  • If your technical equipment is not sufficient, contact us (fs-physik@uni-koeln.de) and the lecturers! There will be solutions.
  • For all problems: Get in touch with us and the lecturers! Almost everyone is very open to new ideas and it is also clear that there may be difficulties and special wishes. – But we have to talk to each other to make it possible

2) Lonely, you are so lonely?

University is not only about learning, it also has a social component. The normal real foyer which is usually very lifely is currently closed. Therefore, we have opened an Online-Foyer to create a space for communication, discussions, random meetings and leisure activities. We provide a bit of program there – from sports to political debates and introduction to interesting areas of physics to film screenings. But this can only be the beginning, because the Foyer lives from what we make of it!

It is also an important opportunity to ask questions and to get in contact with your fellow students and to form study groups, for example. Registration is therefore really highly recommended!

3) Study financing – for all!

One of the biggest problems at the moment is the financing of studies. Therefore, we have put together a few tips and tricks on our homepage to help you in the short term. But most important: Use our consultation hours!

Nevertheless, unfortunately the problem has not been solved in principle so far. In order to change this, we have also linked a few important petitions on the site for signing and further distribution, e.g:
www.nichtsemester.de

And now?

Hopefully this newsletter was helpful, but it cannot replace personal communication – especially in these times!
That is why we are available at any time. Write to us (we can then also arrange for a phone call or video-conference):
Preferably directly in the Online-Foyer and otherwise to fs-physik@uni-koeln.de

See you in the Online-Foyer!

Your Physics Student’s Council (Fachschaft)

PS: We’d like to remind you of our contact persons at the physics student council for physical, psychological and other problems, also known as Team „Obelix“.
